What is Hej Toto?
Hej Toto is a robot café from Leipzig, Germany: a coffee kiosk in which Toto, a six-axis robotic arm, prepares your coffee and hands you the cup – freshly ground, barista quality, around the clock. He was developed and built by Hej Toto UG in Leipzig.
Where is the coffee robot Toto?
Since May 2026 Toto has been serving coffee 24/7 at Leipzig Central Station (Hauptbahnhof). Before that he worked at Leipzig/Halle Airport from February to April 2026. More locations are being planned – if you have a spot with lots of foot traffic, get in touch.
How does a coffee robot work?
You choose your drink on the touchscreen – in several languages – and pay contactless. Then Toto gets going: he picks a cup, places it under the professional coffee machine that grinds the beans, brews the espresso and foams the milk, adds sugar and a lid if you like, and hands you the finished cup at the pick-up window. Sensors check every step.
What does Toto serve?
Espresso, americano, cappuccino, cortado, flat white and latte macchiato, plus ginger and mint tea and dark or white hot chocolate – every milk drink with oat milk too. For a snack there are vegan organic bars. Current prices are shown on the kiosk.
Is there oat milk? Anything vegan?
Yes. Cappuccino, cortado, flat white, latte macchiato and the hot chocolate come with either cow’s milk or oat milk. Espresso, americano and tea are vegan anyway, and the snacks are vegan organic bars made from dates and nuts.
How do I pay?
Contactless with debit or credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay – just hold your card or phone to the terminal. Toto does not accept cash.
Disposable or reusable cups?
Both. You get your coffee in a disposable cup or in a reusable cup from our partner reCup, Germany’s largest reusable-cup scheme – return it at any reCup partner. Our goal is to go fully reusable.
Is Toto a robot or an AI?
Toto is a real robot: an industrial six-axis robotic arm that moves almost like a human arm. Cameras and sensors let him notice when someone is standing in front of him, and he reacts. The software that runs Toto is written in Leipzig; AI tools mainly help us behind the scenes – in development, monitoring and maintenance.
How hygienic is coffee from a robot?
Very. The coffee machine cleans itself every day, milk system included, and the milk is kept refrigerated. Sensors monitor fill levels and temperatures, telemetry shows us at any time how Toto is doing – and several times a week someone from our team comes by to restock and check on everything.
Can I rent Toto for an event?
Yes. Toto comes to trade fairs, company parties, conferences and festivals as a mobile robot café – delivery, set-up, refills and cleaning included. He only needs a standard power socket (no three-phase) and no water connection, because he carries his own fresh and waste water tanks. Use the contact button or write to [email protected].
I have a location – how do I get Toto?
Hej Toto installs and operates the robot café in places with lots of foot traffic: railway stations, airports, universities, shopping centres, hospitals, office buildings. We take care of operation, restocking and maintenance; you provide the space and a power socket. Send us a few details about the place – we are happy to visit.
Can I buy the robot café?
Yes, on request. The kiosk is developed and built in Leipzig, has LTE connectivity and remote monitoring, ships by standard freight and runs without three-phase power or a water connection. Talk to us and we will go through configuration, lead time and price.
Does Toto replace baristas?
No. Toto stands where no café is open at four in the morning – at the station, at the airport, in the office building at night. Let’s put it this way: he is the friendly barista next door who loves pouring coffee – just made of metal and never off duty. For a chat in your favourite café, humans remain unbeatable.
Who is behind Hej Toto?
Hej Toto UG (haftungsbeschränkt) from Leipzig, founded by Christoph Walter. From mechanics and electronics to software, Toto was created in Leipzig with regional partners – made in Germany. The market launch was co-financed by the European Union (ERDF) and the Free State of Saxony.
